Twinkl is a truly inspirational publisher of educational material. They have been recognised globally for their fantastic, teacher-created resources centred around the students’ growth. As they experienced 'rather significant growth,' the demand for their wide array of products naturally skyrocketed. Which, highlighted a crucial, albeit positive, predicament: they required a robust and adaptable logistics partner to manage their e-commerce. Every stage, from storage and management of stock, to order handling and distribution, are crucial to upholding the high standards of customer service that are at the heart of everything they do.

The Challenge: Growth Demands Smarter Logistics

As Twinkl expanded, our existing order handling operations encountered challenges that rapidly growing e-commerce businesses often stumble upon. These include a large increase in data transfer, and a noticeable absence of accurate delivery updates – that vague 'dispatched' message that leaves everyone guessing. Then there was the important business of managing returns consistently, added to those frustratingly unpredictable delivery times, they understandably began to niggle at the customer experience.

Disorganised incoming order information, with frequent errors, led to the processing delays. Opting for the more 'economical' delivery choices meant less tracking and greater uncertainty, for ourselves and our client. For a busy warehouse this is rather like trying to find a needle in a haystack blindfolded. Twinkl, quite rightly, needed a logistics solution that could handle all their e-commerce orders as they landed, with pinpoint precision, reduce errors through clever scanning, and effortlessly manage their extensive and varied product range, particularly those rather specific educational materials like "Rhino Readers." It was a classic case of growth outstripping the existing infrastructure, and Twinkl needed a partner who wasn't afraid to roll up their sleeves and truly understand their unique needs, rather than offering an off the shelf approach.

In addition we developed an easy-to-use client dashboard, giving the Twinkl team up-to-the-minute information on stock levels, order statuses, and returns, giving everyone that lovely feeling of being in the know. Our sales platform, checks addresses using Royal Mail's system, drastically cutting down on those irritating delivery mistakes. And for returns processing? We put together and implemented a barcode-based system, making the whole process far less of a headache.

Our approach goes beyond the mere mechanics of picking, scanning, and packing. We pride ourselves on our flexible and open approach to 3PL, understanding that every client, especially one as dynamic as Twinkl, has unique requirements. We compiled special software to allow the accurate collation and grouping of items into Twinkl’s final product format. This unique ability was our answer to the problem of collating raw product into managing multiple different lines of product. We also connected directly with delivery companies for live tracking, ensuring full visibility of deliveries throughout the process.
